Break-In Instructions for All Other Muffles

Techniques

BREAK-IN PROCEDURE (All muffles)

Prior to installing your new muffle, replace female connectors on your furnace as applicable per your manufacturer's recommendations.
Following the procedure below will greatly extend the life of your muffle.

NOTE- MUFFLE IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTEE IF USED IN HIGH HEAT APPLICATIONS EXCEEDING 2100°F .

All Muffles, except Ultramat I and II and Unitek CDF

When installing your new muffle, it is essential that the wire be coated with a layer of oxide before it is attacked by the elements present when porcelain is fired.

This oxide is formed by holding the muffle temperature at 1000 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 minutes with no vacuum, and then increasing temperature to 1800 degrees Fahrenheit for 2.5 hours. Following this procedure will greatly extend the life of your muffle.

Ultramat I and II

Use program 7 with low temperature set at 1100 degrees Celsius. As mentioned above, this temperature should be held for three hours.

Unitek CDF

Use a program with a low temperature of 650 Celsius, no vacuum, and at a rate between 32-55 degrees/minute, a high temperature of 1100 degrees Celsius, a hold at temperature time of 25 minutes, and a rise and descent time of 0.3 minutes. Running this program six times will ensure that the necessary oxide layer is formed on the wires in the muffle.
